Yesterday I checked the nest boxes and was rewarded with brand new chickies! These are our first chicks from our domestic hens, although we used a wild hen to incubate them-the domestic hens just aren't into it. Note all the different colors. I took one days worth of eggs and stuck them under the red hen with hopes of getting a good cross section of chicken genes. Unfortunately, and oddly, all the Americana eggs did not hatch (they are the green egg layers which I really want more of). We are excited to see what these little guys will turn out to be like!
